Action Roll

Roll guide

Roll 3d6 + Attribute + Skill + Modifier.

Use Advantage when conditions clearly help. Use Disadvantage when pressure, harm, instability, darkness, noise, or interference clearly hurts.

Frequencies do not add to rolls.

The Handler sets the target number and tells you what success, failure, or misfire means.

Quick read: 10 = easy under pressure // 13 = risky / standard // 16 = hard // 19 = severe // 22 = nearly impossible

Core rule: Misfire is margin-based.

  • Total ≥ TN + 3: Clean success
  • Total ≥ TN: Success
  • Total is TN − 1 or TN − 2: Misfire / wrong-success
  • Total ≤ TN − 3: Failure
  • Natural 3: Hard failure or severe misfire, Handler choice

Misfire means: The Operator gets part or all of what they wanted, but the scene changes against them.

Example (TN 13): 16+ = Clean success // 13–15 = Success // 11–12 = Misfire // 10 or less = Failure // Natural 3 = Hard failure / severe misfire

Awaiting action.

Attributes

Active Misfire

What counts as a misfire?

A misfire is a visible cost attached to a success, partial success, failed recovery, or Handler consequence.

Record what the Operator can observe:

  • something noticed you
  • something followed you
  • evidence changed
  • a witness shifted
  • the room learned something
  • a Frequency bleed got worse
  • a success created a new problem

Record the symptom.

Immediate Notes

RANK ONE OPERATOR EQUIPMENT

Ordinary tools, plausible carry, and one thing you maybe should not have brought.

At first contact, Operators do not arrive with professional containment gear. You have ordinary tools, whatever your life reasonably explains, and maybe one thing you should not have brought.

Handler Limit: If it sounds military, illegal, expensive, or specialized, ask the Handler.

Field Law: A tool solves one problem. A bad decision creates three more.

Major 0/3 // Minor 0/6. Default kit is already listed. Optional carry is usually one item.

ANOMALY LOG

Record the impossible. Patterns emerge.

Local log only. Volunteered copies enter separate recovery review.

RELATIONSHIPS

Map bonds, trust, tension, and risk.

Trust rises when you protect, confess, support, or survive together. Tension rises when you lie, withhold, betray, or let a Misfire hurt someone indirectly.
